Western liberalism is unacceptable to Russia. The Kremlin has carefully examined everything that could be used in well-directed propaganda against liberalism.

The most recent example that has warmed the Kremlin’s online media rhetoric is the interview of a Swedish professor. From this interview began the false story that the professor advocates cannibalism as a solution to climate change.

An interview by Swedish scientist Magnus Federlund, who studies people’s habits, was published on Swedish TV channel TV4 during a Stockholm fair about “food of the future”. This interview aired on September 3rd. In attach find a part of the interview:

Host: But you don’t see this as something that will… It’s not like insects, where it became rather big and popular… Lots of talk about it; famous chefs talking about it, suggesting that this is something that is good for the climate? You don’t see that when it comes to eating humans?

Söderlund: No, that is hardly likely. And when it comes to insects; it’s not as popular as one might expect, at least not in the Western world, even if there’s been a lot of buzz about it. Still, around two billion people eat insects regularly, but they are not in the Western world. A few studies have been performed to establish people’s attitude towards insects as food stuff, but it is apparent that very, very few people consider this exciting. And human meat would have an even higher threshold of disgust.

Host: I suppose we have to be grateful…

Söderlund: But if it comes to a situation where we have to really leave no stone unturned concerning various issues of climate and sustainability, it is important to raise this issue.

It is this interview that is used to spread manipulative facts, which is then used as a propaganda tool. False facts used as a professor’s statement from this interview are often repeated, and many believe it to be true.

Magnus Federlund did not propose or advocate cannibalism as a solution to climate change during a September 3 interview on the Swedish television channel TV4. Instead, he explained that his research on the issue was intended to spark public opinion and then measure people’s red lines in their willingness to consume different types of meat.

Just the day after the interview was aired on September 4, the American Epoch Times has an article on cannibalism as a solution to climate change. The article states that a Swedish scientist stands for human flesh in the bobcat against food shortages in climate change. The author of the text is referring to an interview on Swedish TV4. The assertion put forward, however, has nothing to do with the professor’s statement. The Epoch Times article has prompted several other articles and articles, including that of Fox News.

On September 5, Sputnik published an article citing the professor’s statement on cannibalism as a solution to climate change.

September 6th includes social media, Breitbart News tweeted on the subject. In addition to the tweet, the article is also available on their website.

All of these reports have presented Ferdelund as an advocate of the cannibalism thesis as a solution to climate change. But in reality, that just isn’t true.

James Savage, CEO and publisher of Local, a Stockholm-based European English language news network, provided the translation of the most relevant parts of the TV4 interview, adding that it would be inaccurate to say Sherdelund “Stands” for cannibalism in his remarks.

According to the fact-checker, here is the answer the professor sent to their questions about the announcement that he advocates cannibalism as a solution to climate change:

Sputnik’s announcement is again used for the Kremlin script. Russian media are starting their propaganda rhetoric. On September 10th are published, “Swedish Scientist Suggests Cannibalism to Fight Global Warming“; “‘I Would Try To Least Like It’: Swedish Scientist Calls for Eating Dead People“. On September 11th, “Calls to Europe to Violate the Prime Moral Taboo” was released. The narrative begins that the moral decay of the West begins precisely with the scientist from Sweden. The Russian Insider has made a thorough analysis of the story.

A key attack on the Kremlin’s propaganda is rounded out on a television show by their main protagonist, Dmitry Kiselinov. He emphasizes: “The concept of ‘sin’ is abolished in liberalism. The vices became a virtue. Now they serve us: a piece of nose or ear, crunchy with embers … And as we enjoy all of this, we resolve the question of providing sustainable food sources for mankind and save the planet from global warming. Be aware, eat each other! Let’s be serious: we’ve reached the end of the line. Under the banner of progress, they propose to degrade us into savages. ”

The disinformative narrative is intensively constructed in order to provoke an emotional explosion against liberalism.

The truth is that Professor Shederlund did not advocate or propose cannibalism as a solution to climate change in a TV interview on Swedish TV4. In essence, he only talked about it, clarifying that his research involves asking a question about it. He personally rejected claims that he advocated or proposed cannibalism, suggesting that he was only evaluating the audience’s response to the theoretical perspective on eating human flesh.
