Celebration of every holiday deserves respect. Holidays usually bring people together.

Since yesterday the celebration of “Halloween” has been in the center of attention. Its popularity is globalIt is celebrated every year on October 31st. The roots of its celebration come from Ireland. The Celts once believed in spirituality. They even tried to act like gods, displaying cunning and wisdom in order to overcome their enemies. The Celts glorified the God of the Sun and the Lord of Death. The first day of November was the beginning of a new year for them. The Celts believed that the night between the 31st and the first dead left the tombs and walked around the earth, and in order to prevent themselves from encountering them, people with masks created a great uproar. The Romans also believed in the meaning of this night.

The very term “Halloween” is thought to have originated in the 16th century. Today, there are many attempts by churchgoers to repudiate from what they call a “pagan custom,” which came from the Catholic Church itself. The word came from the merging of the words “All-Hallows-Evening” or a translation the night before the Feast of All Saints. During this period there was also a pumpkin carving tradition based on an Irish legend about Stingy Jack.

Many countries mark this holiday, including Ireland, Canada, the United States, Puerto Rico, Australia and New Zealand, as well as other countries where there is a Catholic population.

It is astonishing how easy many have tried to point out that celebrating this holiday is bad. Among them are especially the clergy.

The narrative that underpins their thesis is that the West is bad, it promotes values that we should not accept.

Some of the posts on Facebook groups in North Macedonia are shared by groups mainly from Serbia and serbian language.

Some of the Serbian reactions were also shared by domestic media.

Off.net.mk conveyed the reaction of Crvena Zvezda Basketball Club and their fans of Halloween.

The Kremlin also uses similar rhetoric to suggest that the Western culture is destroying the Christian values.

Russian MP Vitaly Milonov said in a statement transmitted by Russian portal Politika Segodnya that Halloween is an official holiday that is fashionable in the West. According to him, today is celebrated Halloween, and tomorrow “sex dolls”. According to him, this holiday is unnatural and not normal.

The Christian values include respect for the other. Respect for others’ culture, their traditions and customs does not automatically mean that they are accepted, much less that it will bring the devil himself into the country. We believe in the good. That is why we choose to respect the rights, beliefs, cultures and customs of others. We are all humans. Instead of attacking, it would be enough to just send a greeting. Happy Halloween to those who celebrate it.
