Myth: The government gives money to the families of the deceased to allow registration of COVID as the cause of death
Fact: Bribery allegations are false, Covid’s victims are real
After previously spreading the rumor that the state was allegedly paying a certain amount of money to families to sign that their loved ones had died from Covid19, on April 27, a Twitter user pointed out such an alleged case. According to him, a family from the village of Ljubin was offered 2,000 euros to say that their member had died of coronavirus.
However, the next day, April 28, such allegations were denied. Journalist Furkan Saliu spoke to the immediate family of the deceased, who categorically denied that anyone had offered them money for anything. The family explained the circumstances in which their loved one died and was buried.
This was not the only case of such dangerous propaganda. Many other social media users, victims, or disseminators of such propaganda have written about these allegations. Here are some of them:
Such claims are dangerous and cause distrust among citizens in institutions. The distrust and skepticism fueled by propaganda, as we have seen in this crisis, can be reflected in the lack of caution against virus protection measures. In the end, it threatens all citizens and, unfortunately, human lives.
