The attempts of making speculations become a disinformative narrative do not stop

After the publishing of the article: THE SAME ARTICLE WITH FOUR DIFFERENT TITLES PUBLISHED IN 24 HOURS BECOMES A (DESIGNFORMATION) NARRATIVE, the F2N2 team decided to go a step further and carry out a more detailed research. We present you the findings below.

The statement of the president of VMRO-DPMNE, Hristijan Mickoski, on the TV show “Top Theme” on Telma TV is another proof of the rapid spread of disinformation on the social networks with a wide range and influence on citizens, especially when the source is an official person. According to the analysis of our team, we can again conclude that the media and this news was broadcast without checking its truthfulness and without asking the other party.

The news that there may be a meeting and an agreement between Zoran Zaev and DUI for the political redefinition of the state and the establishing of new borders was announced on 16 portals. It has been shared by 35 Facebook/Twitter/profiles on the social networks. In the graph below, you can see the total number of the followers of the Facebook profiles that shared the news from each of the portals.

The portal that has the most shares on the social networks and a portal with the largest possible range of readers by the number of followers of the facebook pages that shared this news

A portal that has the largest share on the social networks, and at the same time it is with the largest possible range of readers according to the number of followers of the facebook pages by which this news is shared is the portal kurir.mk. The analysis shows that the news from kurir.mk is shared by 8 facebook pages with a total of 978 427 followers. The potential number of followers/users that the news reached to ranges from 19 568 to 63 597 followers.

Note: The image shows a different number of followers compared to the table above, that is, 985 340. This is only an evidence that there are closed profiles that share the news that the software does not process due to the privacy rules.

During the analysis, it was noted that all portals have a different way of sharing the news. The portal javno.mk published the news 4 times with different titles, and some portals published it with 2 different titles. It is symptomatic of kurir.mk that the sharing of this news is orchestrated/automated, ie it is shared on 8 facebook groups at the same time on June 11 at 12:03.

The portal with the largest number of interactions from the shares by the social networks

The news caused the most interactions with the announcement from the portal vmro-dpmne.org.mk. The number of interactions is 514, and the total number of followers on the facebook/twitter profiles by which this news is shared is 179 001. The potential number of followers/users that the news reached to ranges from 3 580 to 11 635.

An overview of how the news from the media spread through the social networks.

Note: The Facebook algorithm, or the researches related to the range (Organic reach), shows a percentage of 2% (for groups larger than 500,000 followers up to 6.5% for groups with less than 500,000 followers). For the purposes of this analysis, the range from 2% to 6.5% was taken. Considering the popularity of Facebook in the Republic of North Macedonia as well as the number of profiles registered on this social network, it can be confirmed that the above percentage is much closer to 6.5% than to the minimum of 2%.
