The world is facing new challenges. On one hand there is the coronavirus pandemic, and on the other hand the spread of misinformation about this virus.
The manipulative content shows how people are being “treated” by Covid-19. They include unscientific advice, predictions from Nostradamus and Baba Vangja, and even counterfeit reports by institutions. Even Stanford University was abused in the manipulative reports with a false self-test.
The social media often share stories about all the possible things that can be used to cure the coronavirus, from brandy to garlic.
It is true that there is no “cure” for the coronavirus so far. Unfortunately, such misinformation has resulted in death tragedies. According to some reports, at least 44 people have died in Iran after consuming alcohol, wanting to recover from Corona.
Be cautious. Don’t believe everything you read online.
Myth: There is a cure for corona. Spray yourselves with alcohol or chlorine.
Fact: Spraying alcohol or chlorine on your body will not eliminate viruses that have already entered your body. Spraying with such substances can be harmful. Alcohol and chlorine may be useful for disinfecting surfaces, but they should be used as prescribed.
The most effective protection is frequent hand washing and social distancing
Myth: Appliances used for drying hands with hot air protect against the new coronavirus
Fact: Appliances used for drying hands with hot air are not effective in eliminating COVID-19. To protect yourself, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Only after that you can dry your hands using a paper towel or a hot air dryer, recommends WHO.
Myth: The Covid 19 virus is not transmitted to areas with hot and humid climates
Facts: The evidence so far suggests that the COVID-19 virus can be transmitted to any location, even where the weather is warm and humid. For this reason, official sources have repeatedly emphasized to follow the recommendations and to respect the safety measures. The best way to protect yourself is to maintain personal hygiene. Besides washing hands, it is recommended to avoid touching the face, i.e. the eyes, the mouth and the nose.
Myth: The Corona virus only affects older people
Facts: The coronavirus does not only affect older people. Besides the elderly, the virus can be tragic for those with certain health problems (asthma, diabetes, heart disease).
WHO advises people, regardless of their age, to take all steps to protect themselves.
Myth: A hot bath can stop the coronavirus
Fact: A hot bath will not prevent you from becoming infected with COVID-19. Normal body temperature ranges from 36.5 °C to 37 °C. It will stay within those limits, regardless whether you decide to bathe in a tub with hot water or in a shower. Bathing with a very hot water can harm you, or burn you.
Don’t believe everything you read on the social networks. Be especially careful. To get detailed and accurate information on all issues related to COVID-19, we recommend that you follow the official sources: World Health Organization and Ministry of Health. They make sure that you receive all the information consistently, accurately, and timely. Follow all the measures and recommendations. That way you take care of your health and protect those around you.
