The Alliance of Democracies and its Transatlantic Commission on Election Integrity (TCEI) in cooperation with Facebook on 13 January, 2022 organized a virtual debate titled "Foreign information operation in the Western Balkans - challenges and the way forward". FN Project manager Rosana Aleksoska was a speaker at one of the panels.

"When we speak about disinformation narratives on the Balkans, we need to be aware that they are polarizing, divisive and are used in a way that tackles the deeply rooted feelings and misbeliefs in order to discredit certain individuals as well as the Western institutions". - Aleksoska

Among the other things Aleksoska underlined that: "In the course of the previous years we have witnessed a series of events and information operations that aim at distorting the facts, defocus, dismay, discredit the institutions and deepen the divisions among the citizens in the country".

"Russian disinformation and information operations are driven by the misconceptions, misperceptions and misbeliefs that are deeply rooted within a part of the population, in particular the orthodox population across the Balkan countries" concluded Aleksoska.
