The Russian propaganda is reactivated with old news. Namely, the portal Magazin on April 09, 2020 published an article whose title reads: “PUTIN ORDERS: INTERNATIONAL ARREST WARRANT FOR GEORGE SOROS!“.
Besides the portal Magazin, the portals Republika.mk, Mkdpress.site, Infomax.mk, Think.mk, Vesnik-ilinden.com and Majtajm.com also conveyed this misinformation, misleading the readers that the action is happening now, in 2020. This misinformation is half a decade old. Almost every year, from 2015 onwards, this misinformation is displayed on portals that have a pro-Russian orientation. You can check that this misinformation originates from 2015 on the following links: Zase.mk, Vecer.mk.
In 2016, this misinformation appeared on the portal Puls24.mk, but it was deleted. If you search for “puls24 petin soros” on your Google search engine, first you’ll see the deleted articles with a release date in 2016.
From 2017 to 2019, the misinformation was put on hold, because we failed to find news with the same content, but it reappeared in 2020 as we mentioned at the beginning of this article.
The disinformation has been shared on the social network Facebook in the last ten days. To see for yourself, check the following six links: 09.04.2020, 10.04.2020, 11.04.2020, 12.04.2020, 13.04.2020, 14.04.2020. The most commonly shared article is the one published on Infomax, which is not at all surprising.
We can label this misinformation as a “weed”, no matter how much it is disclosed, it reappears over the years. Two things are very interesting about this misinformation.
First of all, George Soros’s name is not on the “Kremlin’s black list” of people from the European Union barred from entering Russia.
Second, no matter how much power he has is in his country, Putin has no authority to issue international arrest warrants, he can only ask for approval. They can only be issued by Interpol and no one else.
It becomes a common practice that unsubstantiated, unconfirmed information, even from an official source are being published as truths.
