Original title: The famous Russian pulmonologist does not send the most difficult cases to respirators, but treats them with his method!
The portal Standard has published a text claiming that Russian doctors are using a new alternative method to treat more severely infected COVID-19 patients. Dr. Alexander Grigorievich Chuchalin, a doctor in Russia who treated his patients with helium and oxygen instead of putting them on respirators, was quoted as saying. It is said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has already been informed about this invention. The published text repeatedly underlined that it was a Russian invention or discovery.
Treatment with helium and oxygen is not an invention of Russian scientists and Russia. There are dozens of arguments and examples of this for other countries that already use it and even have a device with this combination that is used in patients with asthma.
If you search for yourself for information about this combination of oxygen and helium on Google Scholar, most of the texts that will appear on your screen are related to the treatment of asthma sufferers. But what is even more obvious is that in this research paper you can find research from 1935, which means that this is an old medical method used to treat respiratory problems, and is not the current invention of some Russian doctor. We will not go into the effectiveness of this method because there is still no accurate research that proves positive or negative aspects.
There is already an apparatus for treating asthma with oxygen and helium
Researchers at the University of Arizona have already designed a device that works with a combination of helium and oxygen to treat asthma, which can help fight coronavirus.
The announcement of the discovery comes a month before Russian propaganda that they had discovered a combination that helps breathe easier.
In Canada, too, a combination of helium and oxygen has been used to treat patients with coronavirus. They use an interesting method to facilitate patient breathing. As you can see from the video, the bag is filled with helium and oxygen, which is then sucked in by the patient with a tube.
The information that Russian doctors have discovered a new method for treating breathing problems in severe cases of coronavirus is taken from the Serbian portals Novosti.rs, Alo.rs, and Intermagazin.rs, which have a dubious background, therefore, this text which then has been transmitted through a portal in North Macedonia should be taken with a dose of caution and not as a “victory of medicine in Russia” because it is simply not so.
However, it should be noted that this type of treatment of respiratory diseases with helium and oxygen, has not yet been widely used to treat patients with COVID-19, as it is still in the experimental phase.
It is not disputed that efforts are being made in Russia to introduce alternative measures to treat coronavirus, but it is wrong to attribute to Russia alleged discoveries that the world already knows and even uses for treatment of respiratory diseases.
Whenever you read texts with such sensational headlines and words, look for another source, and read different approaches that will help you get to the truth. Don’t let a propaganda text mislead you.
And yes, check before you share.
