The title and the photo point at one thing, while the following text is a little different and reveals the truth. The text under this headline, however, states who the deceased is: “Serbian media today write extensively about the death of the best friend of President Aleksandar Vucic and the relative of the actor Dragan Bjelogrlic from the coronavirus.”
It is true that the actor Dragan Bjelorlic is alive. The deceased is his relative. It is unclear why the news about a person who is not known to the Macedonian public is presented in this way.
The world is facing the challenge posed by the pandemic of COVID-19. Everyone is upset. That’s why it is essential that the sensitivity of journalists when reporting on coronavirus-related information should be raised to the highest professional level.
Under such extraordinary circumstances, it is impermissible for the public to be misleaded, especially when it comes to tragedies. The media must be especially careful and professional, as well as respect basic journalistic standards without concessions.
