The Mayor of the City of Skopje, Petre Shilegov, in an interview with the Greek “Ethnos”, published on April 11, 2020, spoke about the monuments in the City of Skopje from the project “Skopje 2014”.
In the interview, Mayor Shilegov reiterated the views expressed earlier that he is committed to removing the monuments and the facades of the project immediately after the parliamentary elections.
The portal, Markukule.mk on April 13, 2020 has transmitted part of the interview of Mayor Shilegov for “Ethnos”. The headline reads: People are dying, and he wants to remove monuments?
It is a tendentious title and an attempt to connect the current situation with the coronavirus with the mayor of the city of Skopje. The purpose is to show that Mayor Petre Shilegov is not interested in how many people are dying in our country from the coronavirus, and that the only thing he is thinking about is the removal of the monuments. If you read the interview of Petre Shilegov in “Ethnos”, you can see that at no point was the pandemic with COVID-19 discussed. That is why the title is considered tendentious and aims to mislead the readers that something, at this time of storm, will happen to the monuments of Skopje 2014.
Or, in other words, the elections will take place after the end of the state of emergency, which in itself will mean that the situation with the pandemic will be brought under control. At no point is the removal of monuments placed in the current context and time.
This text is also directly related to a series of false reports from the past that the curfew was established to remove monuments, which is a false narrative related to the pandemic caused by COVID-19.
