The appearance of the coronavirus has made a very soft ground on which fake news has started to be created that plays with the feeling of the citizens of the Balkans. Various drugs which are used for normal flu started to be presented as effective against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which even the greatest scientists haven’t yet fully investigated or found an adequate cure for.

The medicine “Arbidol” which is a Russian product and is used to treat the flu, is already being sold on the Internet as a drug that can be used to treat the coronavirus. There is even a video in which two alleged Italians go to Russia and buy Arbidol, and say that it is not available in Italy, only in Russia and that it is effective. The authors of the video are clearly convinced that the presence of Arbidol in Russia is the reason for the small number of cases of COVID-19 infection in the Russian Federation.

The drug is also being sold online as a medical miracle against the coronavirus, although there is still no scientific research to prove its effectiveness, and Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has found a violation in the Arbilidol ad, but the circumstances of the ad have yet to be investigated, in which Arbidol was presented as a cure for coronavirus although the drug did not have the properties that are being shown. In addition to this Russian institution, a number of Russian doctors confirm that Arbidol is not a cure for coronavirus.

„The magical“ medications are walking around the Balkans and are taken for granted, don’t you also take them for granted!

While we’re waiting for all the circumstances surrounding the drug Arbidol and its effect to be clarified, this information is already being taken for granted in the Balkans, although various counterfeiting services are refuting this news.

Serbian counterfeit news service Fake News Tragac has conducted a study on the drug Arbidol, which is said to be ineffective in fighting the coronavirus, because if it were, the World Health Organization and other countries would procure it and cure their peoples, especially considering that the medicine in Russia costs about 100 Macedonian denars. The service also reminds that the World Health Organization has not yet recommended any drug that helps against the coronavirus.

In addition, the WHO, the US Food and Drug Administration, Great Britainhas did not put it on their lists of drugs to treat viral diseases, although it is sold as such in Russia. This drug was created in the 1970s in the Soviet Union and its patent expired in 2007. But today it is produced by a number of companies in Russia, Belarus and China.

Fake News Tragac notes that Arbildol can be bought without a prescription in Russia, and after the virus broke out, its sales rose by more than 80%.

The Macedonian version of “Russia Beyond” also notes that “Antivirals and vitamins are sold as anti-coronavirus drugs.”

The service writes that “Russian pharmaceutical companies and pharmacies have already started making money from the news about the coronavirus. From mid-January, the sale of antiviral drugs in the Russian pharmacy chains “Doctor Stoletov”, “Ozerki” and “36.6” has increased. An increase in sales of 50 to 80% is noticed.

The Bosnian counterfeit news service Raskrinkavanjeje.ba has also published a study on vitamin-based drugs that are presented as drugs to fight the virus, or drugs that boost the immunity. All of this was done with alleged doctor’s calls or recommendations. Various ingredients are recommended that, if used regularly, they supposedly help boosting immunity and fighting the virus.

Researchers from the service found that the same drugs were published in the previous years, but were indicated as drugs for other diseases.

There is still no cure for coronavirus, and if found, it will not be available in the pharmacies.

Our recommendation is not to look for a cure for coronavirus because it is not yet available. Follow the recommendations of the health care institutions about personal hygiene and isolate yourself, this is the only thing you can do for you and your loved ones. The fact is that at the moment, the scientific community and health systems are using a combination of drugs to treat the disease developed by the coronavirus. Scientists and pharmaceutical companies are also developing a vaccine to prevent coronavirus, which will certainly take time.

Until a drug or vaccine licensed by the World Health Organization appears, there is no cure.
